WooCoupon - How to sell fixed denomination gift cards

WooCoupon provide a powerful, “all-in-one” solution for gift cards, store credits, discount coupons, and vouchers extending the core functionality of WooCommerce coupons.

This doc article explains how you can sell fixed denomination gift cards – $10, $50, $100, $200…set within a fixed lower and upper limit. Offer a versatile gift card system allowing your customers to select from a list of fixed denomination.

WooCoupon does not introduce a dedicated product type. Instead, it allows you to use Simple or Variable products as a basis for selling gift cards.

How to create a gift card

To allow customers to purchase fixed denomination gift cards of their choice in quantities, you need to first create a coupon and then a product.

Creating a gift card coupon

  1. Go to your WooCoupon > Add new coupon.
  2. Click on Generate coupon code or enter your own code.
Important: Coupon code should not have any spaces.
  3. Select ‘Store Credit / Gift Certificate’ as Discount type from the drop-down.
    Important: Leave coupon amount blank.
  4. Enable ‘Coupon Value Same as Product’s Price?’ option.
  5. Publish the coupon.

Creating a product

  1. Add a new Variable product or edit an existing Variable product.
  2. Associate the above-created coupon with this product under General > Coupons.
  3. Add attributes to a variable product.
  4. Create product variations, where each variation has a unique and fixed price.
  5. If you do not want to charge shipping for this product, mark product variations as Virtual.
  6. Publish/Update the product.

Important: If you have any coupon in your store, which can be used to buy this store credit/gift certificate, make sure to set ‘Usage limit per user’ under ‘Usage limits’ to 1. Otherwise, your customer will get real credit at a discounted rate for multiple times. It may result in the overall loss for your store.

How customers can purchase fixed denomination gift cards

When a customer purchases any product variation, a coupon with the same price as the variation will be created and will be emailed to him/her.

  1. A customer visits the product page, which allows them to purchase credit in the available fixed denominations.
  2. They select the amount of credit and quantity they want to purchase. For example, $5 credit in quantity of ten and $30 credit in quantity of five. Customers would choose $5 from the dropdown menu and set the quantity to 10 and add them to cart. The customer would then choose $30 from the dropdown, set the quantity to five, add them to cart and then proceed to checkout.
  3. On the checkout page, the customer will have two options to send the coupons.
    1. Send to me
    2. Gift to some one else
  4. Clicking on ‘Gift to someone else’ will give 2 options “Send to one” (default) and “Send to many”. This option will provide 2 fields: Email address of recipient & Message for the recipient.
  5. The customer might also get an option to schedule the sending of store credit/gift card to different people.
  6. The customer then makes the payment.

That’s it.
